Mission Statement

What We Offer
Community Therapies/ Baby Steps  works with children and adults with various disabilities in need of therapy services such as speech/ language, early intervention for children birth to three with developmental delays, disabilities, including autism spectrum disorders, occupational therapy, sensory integration,  nutrition, behavior, social skills/friendship groups, family support groups, infant massage, specialized programs for language and reading, and relationship building for parent/child. 

Our innovative programs are on the cutting edge of service delivery and education. Using advanced technology programs with our multi-disciplinary team makes a difference in the lives of those we serve.

Community Therapies is a Center of Excellence with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health and is a world-wide training site for occupational therapists, speech and language pathologists, and early interventionists. Community Therapies is a non-public agency with the State of California’s Department of Education and is a vendor of several Regional Centers contracted with the Department of Developmental Disabilities.

History
Community Therapies was first established in the Antelope Valley in 1981 by Dr. Elaine Fogel Schneider, Ph.D., Founder/ Executive Director. Baby Steps was established in 1983. 

Dr. Elaine is considered an expert in parent child relationships. She is a widely sought after lecturer and author. She has developed a Speech-Language Movement Therapy technique, which has been presented to international, national and state conferences of therapists, educators and parents. She was on faculty at Cedars Sinai with the Infant Mental Health Project, and is an adjunct faculty member at California State University, Bakersfield, Antelope Valley campus.  She is the co-author of Pictures Please and author of Expressions From the Heart and "The Power of Touch."  Her forthcoming book, Massaging Your Baby will be released in February, 2005.

Governors Deukmejian and Wilson appointed Dr. Schneider to the State Interagency Coordinating Council for Early Intervention for infants and toddlers with disabilities and their families. She has been nominated to numerous Who's Who publications, and has received Distinguished Service awards from state, county and professional organizations. Dr. Schneider is a Fellow of California Speech Language Hearing Association's (CSHA). She was also the Director of CSHA District 7, and has appeared on The Learning Channel’s A Slice of Life and is seen providing touch harmony massage on the Early Start PSA for the State of California.
