A Word From The Executive Director
Elaine Fogel Schneider, Ph.D.
We just completed a wonderful month of April, with recognition of our marvelous occupational therapists.  Also to celebrate Autism Awareness Month,  Dr. Susan Schmidt-Lackner, from U.C.L.A spoke about the most recent trends in the field of Autism Spectrum Disorder.  Now the statistics show that one out of every 250 children are being diagnosed with autism.  She spoke to almost one hundred audience participants at our Santa Clarita Valley office, inaugurating Community Conversations.

We had many winners of our many occupational therapy contests for counting the number of jellybeans in a jar or the number of balls in the sack.  Mr. Dan Garcia was the grand winner in Santa Clarita winning both counting contests.  He showed us his calculation methodology and we will see how he does with the guessing game this month of how many kisses are in the jar.  Our very own Rosemarie in Lancaster won the jelly beans contest and Lance N. (Kelly’s client) won the ball guess.

May is our month to celebrate Better Hearing and Speech Month. Watch out because we are all going to make sure that you are communicating and being fully self expressed.

Children are our most important resource and at Community Therapies and Baby Steps we value each and every family.  Our services continue to meet the needs of each and every child.  We have added music therapy and floortime in our Santa Clarita office. Baby Signs® and Active Communication Therapy in Lancaster, Palmdale and Santa Clarita.  All of our other services continue to lead early intervention programs using our multi-disciplinary team in the various settings of home, clinic and other natural environments to meet individual child and family needs.

I welcome our speech and language pathologists and speech and language pathology assistants.  Whether working at the clinic, in the home, or at schools this team offers superb professionalism, knowledge and outstanding quality care. Enjoy meeting our staff and learning more about our speech team, and celebrate Better Hearing and Speech Month with us.
